Domain Mapping and Free SSL Integration: A Step-by-Step Guide

Welcome to our comprehensive guide on how to seamlessly map your domain while integrating Cloudflare’s free SSL service. This process ensures a secure and encrypted connection for your website visitors. Follow the steps below to successfully map your domain and activate free SSL through Cloudflare.

Step 1: Sign Up for Cloudflare:

  1. Visit the Cloudflare website (www.cloudflare.com) and sign up for a free account using your preferred email and password.

Step 2: Add Your Domain to Cloudflare:

  1. After logging in, click the “+ Add Site” button on the Cloudflare dashboard.
  2. Enter your domain name (e.g., www.yourwebsite.com) and click “Add Site.”
  3. Cloudflare will automatically scan your existing DNS records.

Step 3: Confirm DNS Records:

  1. Cloudflare will display a list of DNS records it detected. Review these records and click “Continue.”
  2. Ensure that all your essential DNS records are correctly listed.

Step 4: Choose a Plan:

  1. Cloudflare will present you with different plans. Select the “Free” plan and click “Confirm.”
  2. Proceed to the next screen by clicking “Continue Setup.”

Step 5: Update Name Servers:

  1. Cloudflare will provide you with new name servers. These will replace your current name servers at your domain registrar.
  2. Log in to your domain registrar’s website, navigate to your domain’s DNS settings, and update the name servers with the ones provided by Cloudflare.

Step 6: Add DNS Records for IP Mapping:

  1. In the Cloudflare dashboard, navigate to the “DNS” section.
  2. Add a new DNS record by selecting “A” (IPv4 address) from the drop-down menu.
  3. Enter your domain name (e.g., www.yourwebsite.com) as the name.
  4. In the IPv4 address field, enter the IP address provided in the domain mapping section of your WaaS dashboard.
  5. Set the TTL (Time to Live) to “Auto.”
  6. Click “Add Record” to save the DNS entry.

Step 7: Enable Cloudflare SSL:

  1. Once your name servers are updated and propagated, return to the Cloudflare dashboard.
  2. Navigate to the “SSL/TLS” section.
  3. Set the SSL mode to “Full” for end-to-end encryption.

Step 8: Verify SSL Activation:

  1. Wait for a short while to allow the changes to propagate across the internet.
  2. Access your website using “https://” (e.g., https://www.yourwebsite.com) to confirm the SSL activation. Your browser should display a secure connection symbol (padlock).

Congratulations! Your domain is now mapped to your desired destination using the IP address provided on the domain mapping section of your WaaS dashboard, and Cloudflare’s free SSL is seamlessly integrated, ensuring a secure and trustworthy browsing experience for your visitors.

Note: The process described above applies the principles of domain mapping and SSL activation through Cloudflare. While the steps specifically refer to Cloudflare integration, you can apply the same principles when mapping your domain through other platforms or services.
